On August 3rd and 4th, we, the youth of Kuwait, will be taking part in a rescue mission. Unlike your typical rescue mission, our ammo will be our voices and we will use that ammo to go from door to door, and inform the people about a disturbing reality. That reality is that Burmese Muslims are being subject to genocide and mass murder. Why? all because they wanted to take refuge in Burma. Ladies and Gentlemen, we would like to invite you to take part in our campaign known as “Gergeea3an for Burma”. What’s happening is that right now, there is a mass genocide happening in the country of Burma (Myanmar) as we speak. Fellow Muslims are falling victim to ethnic cleansing in Burma and nobody is talking about it or doing anything about it. That is why we need YOUR help to spread awareness about this massacre. No human being deserves to be treated like that; especially during this holy month. What we’re going to provide you with are these petitions for you to print. What we want you to do with them is to go from house to house during Gergeea3an, perform the usual Gergee3an rituals but, instead of taking the candy and leaving, you will be informing the people at the door about what is going on in Burma and have them sign the petition. In the end, we’ll gather up all the signatures, upload them to the online petition and, if the petition reaches 500,000 signatures, the petition will be sent to the United Nations Human Rights Council and they’ll finally be able to act on it. This is something that the whole family will be able to take part in. You can have your younger brothers, sisters or cousins hold the petitions and go on to gather the signatures required.
Social media is starting to play a big role in Equait’s activities and, judging by the title, this campaign will be no different. While you’re taking part in the Gergee3an, use the #BurmaGergee3an hashtag to connect with other people doing the same task. Upload pictures, videos, tell us about the number of petitions gathered and so much more! Let us try our best to get this trending in Kuwait and prove that we, the current generation, are doing something about a serious issue!
To send us your petitions, call the Equait directory at 67774950 and let us know how you’d like us to collect the signatures. Alternatively, you can upload them yourself to the following link and enter the names in the “first time here” section.
As Kuwaiti residents, we keep on sitting back and watching as carnage unfolds all over the world. What makes this incident different is that no media outlet is covering it; clearly evident by the fact that there are only 171 signatures out of a possible 500,000 on the online petition. I for one will not let my Burmese Muslim brothers and sisters voices go unheard. For once, let us take a stand and do something about it! Let us, the people of Kuwait, think about others less fortunate than us and make the biggest impact possible by getting this petition to as many houses as we can! Let us act as the “Voices of the Voiceless” and save as many lives as possible! At the end of the day, this is a human rights issue so download that petition and let’s lend a hand to our Muslim siblings in Burma!
